Liza Critchley

I studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Cambridge, then I spent nearly two years at J.P. Morgan in wealth management, where I gained hands-on exposure to multi-asset portfolio construction.
After making a deliberate decision to leave J.P. Morgan, I used an intentional period of structured learning to deepen my expertise in finance. Notably, I built independent research and investment frameworks focused on one question: how geopolitical and economic dynamics translate into financial markets and investment decision-making.
Investment professional and independent reseacher with a focus on how geopolitical and economic forces shape investment opportunities across asset classes
Independent Projects
1. Scenario-Based Multi-Asset Portfolio Construction
A portfolio framework linking geopolitical and economic scenarios to allocation decisions across asset classes
2. Emerging-Market Green Bond Research
Analysis of currency risk in Green and Low-Carbon Bonds Across Emerging Market and Developing Economies
3. Geopolitical Risk Analysis
A body of work that examines how geopolitical and economic developments affect financial markets and investor judgement
How I Work
My work is shaped by:
-
Initiative – proactively creating opportunities rather than waiting for them
-
Independent thinking – building from first principles rather than on ready-made templates
-
Structured judgement – connecting top-down analysis to concrete decisions
-
Rigorous execution – developing ideas into frameworks, research and proposals
-
Consistency of focus – producing work at the intersection of geopolitics, economics and markets
What underpins my approach – and differentiates me – is a combination of financial acumen (including sustainable investing), practical industry experience, geopolitical and economic awareness, quantitative capabilities and strong communication.
This combination allows me to move from broad geopolitical and macroeconomic developments to clear and structured investment judgement. This is supported by practical experience and formal finance training, including the CISI Level 4 Investment Advice Diploma, the CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing, alongside my status as a CFA Level I candidate.
Long-Term Focus
I’m most interested in solving for the challenges and opportunities that sit at the intersection of geopolitics, economic and financial markets intersect – especially in high-uncertainty environments where existing tools fall short. What drives my work is a belief that the real challenge in finance is less about information scarcity, and more about information overload.
I’m particularly interested in how technology can reduce this complexity by turning this geopolitical, economic and financial market information into clearer, more structured, and more decision-useful insights.
Long term, I aim to build in this space.
